Aaron Donald is one of the greatest defensive players the game of football has ever seen. On Super Bowl Sunday evening right before the game, reports surfaced that one of the greatest to ever do it might hang up his cleats. After the Rams defeated the Bengals 23-20, Michelle Tafoya caught up with Donald to ask him whether or not he was going to retire.

Overcome with emotion, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year had tears in his eyes in the interview. “I’m just gonna live in the moment. I’m just gonna enjoy this right now with these guys. When my kids come on the field. This is a promise I made to my daughter….I’m just gonna live in the moment.”

Donald made the game-sealing play, slinging Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow to the ground like a ragdoll to clinch the victory for the Los Angeles Rams. Burrow’s pass fell incomplete on fourth down and it never really had a chance because of Donald’s pressure.

If that was indeed the end for the future Hall-of-Famer, it was a fitting ending. He finished the game with two sacks, three quarterback hurries, and one quarterback hit. The Bengals’ offensive line double and triple teamed him for much of the first half. The Rams‘ front seven was able to get much more pressure in the second half once they made adjustments.

Aaron Donald has been in the league for eight seasons. His resume is flat out incredible. Take a look at the list of his remarkable accomplishments throughout his NFL career.

Simply put, it’s been an incredible career for one of the greatest defenders the game will ever see. If he rides off into the sunset after tonight, it’d be hard to blame him. He’d already accomplished everything imaginable in his career and tonight, Donald got to add the final missing piece to his resume: a Super Bowl ring.

The Los Angeles Rams defense sacked Joe Burrow seven times tonight–tying the Super Bowl record. It was a miracle of sorts that the Cincinnati Bengals even got to the Super Bowl-considering the play of their offensive line. Joe Burrow was sacked a total of 70 times throughout the 2021-2022 NFL season. Their offensive line will need to be addressed and addressed immediately in the 2022 off-season.
