Rashee Rice, Trey Smith injury update: Chiefs players' status revealed ahead of Thanksgiving game vs. Cowboys
The Kansas City Chiefs announced the injury status of wide receiver Rashee Rice and offensive lineman Trey Smith for the Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys. In the Chiefs’ Wednesday injury/practice report, Rice (hamstring) was listed as a full participant and will play on Thursday. Smith (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday and is ruled out.
Trey Smith, tight end Noah Gray (concussion), and cornerback Chris Roland-Wallace (back) are the three players the Chiefs ruled out for the Thanksgiving Day game. Rashee Rice was a limited participant in practice on Monday, but he was listed as a full participant for the last two days.
The Chiefs will need to be as healthy as possible during the final stretch of the season because they are in playoff mode. If the postseason were to start today, Kansas City would not qualify to make a run at the Super Bowl.

On Sunday, the Chiefs earned a much-needed overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts. Rice played a big role in the victory, catching eight passes for 141 yards. So far this season, Rice has caught 34 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns in five games. He missed the first six games of the season after the NFL suspended him for his criminal convictions.
Smith missed the majority of the Colts game due to an ankle injury. This is a big loss for the Chiefs as Smith has become one of the top offensive linemen in the NFL. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time last year and has helped the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023.
Thursday will be the Chiefs’ Thanksgiving game in nearly 20 years. In 2006, Kansas City earned a 19-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Arrowhead Stadium.
