Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey expected to miss time due to injury

Ravens star Marlon Humphrey missed practice Wednesday with a foot injury. The medical issue may force him to miss the start of the regular season.
Reporters with the NFL Network first broke the news. Ian Rapoport said Humphrey will need surgery, which likely will happen Wednesday. He said the timetable for his return is sometime in late September, meaning the All Pro cornerback could miss the first two regular season games.
After practice, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Humphrey will have surgery today.
The Ravens are in the midst of practicing against the Washington Commanders. Humphrey participated Tuesday but wasn’t on the field this morning.
The Ravens selected Marlon Humphrey, a former Alabama star, in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s earned spots in three Pro Bowls, including in 2022.

Baltimore opens the season against the Texans. And they likely can get by against Houston without their star cornerback. However, the next week the Ravens take on the Bengals, the team that ended their season in the playoffs earlier this year. Humphrey would’ve drawn the assignment against Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who caught 87 passes last season.
Humphrey isn’t the only injured defensive back. Rock Ya-Sin, a projected starter, suffered an injury at the start of training camp. Harbaugh indicated earlier this week that Ya-Sin is nearing a return to the field.
Meanwhile, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley strained his hamstring. That doesn’t leave much depth behind Lamar Jackson, who has struggled with injuries the past two seasons.
