Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is best known for his success on the field. However, now he’s making headlines off the field for all the right reasons.

A passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight, Andrew Springs, took to social media. There, he shared a story from his flight where Andrews stepped up and was able to save another passenger having a medical emergency on the flight with a diabetic testing kit.

“A woman on my @southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix this morning had a mid-flight medical emergency,” Springs wrote. “The doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and required oxygen to breathe. It was genuinely scary.”

This is when Mark Andrews stood up and offered his help, wondering if the passenger was having an issue with their blood sugar.

“A man in the aisle seat popped up, ‘Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.’ It was @Ravens TE Mark Andrews. Andrews instructed the medical professionals (equal citizen heroes in this story) on using his test kit,” Springs continued. “Eventually her heart-rate stabilized.”

What impressed the passenger on the flight who shared the story the most was how Mark Andrews handled himself in the situation.

“Paramedics met the flight as soon as we landed,” he wrote. “Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare. As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most. Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing.”

When he was nine years old Mark Andrews was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes. That could have prevented him from being able to have an NFL career. However, he’s managed it and become one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

Mark Andrews activated from injured reserve ahead of AFC Championship

Ahead of the AFC Championship Game, Mark Andrews was activated from injured reserve after suffering a fractured fibula and damaged a ligament in his ankle in November. At the time, it was thought to be a season-ending injury but he was able to work and get back in time for one of the biggest games of the year.

Baltimore’s offense struggled throughout the AFC Championship Game, only scoring 10 points in the frustrating loss that ended their season. For his part, Andrews had two catches for 15 yards while splitting time at tight end with Isaiah Likely.

Heading into the offseason, Andrews now has more time to continue healing up and get ready for the 2024 season.
