Rece Davis, Pete Thamel both pick Ole Miss to upset Oklahoma

On Saturday, Oklahoma and Ole Miss will meet with massive College Football Playoff implications on the line. On the latest episode of the College GameDay Podcast, ESPN’s Rece Davis and Pete Thamel revealed their predictions for the highly-anticipated showdown.
“I’m going to take Ole Miss in this game,” Thamel said. “They have shown enough muster and metal and ability to move the ball, where they can go into Norman and figure it out. It’s good to see John Mateer kind of back a little bit; like, to himself. Oklahoma played really well at South Carolina the other night, but I am going to take the Rebels in an upset.”
“I think Ole Miss wins too,” Rece Davis said. “I think Ole Miss is better. And, also, Ole Miss has never lost to Oklahoma. This is only the third meeting. Beat them last year.”
Las Vegas disagrees with the two analysts. According to BetMGM, Oklahoma is a 5.5-point favorite against the Rebels. Nonetheless, Ole Miss will certainly be hungry for redemption after falling to Georgia last week.
In the loss, Ole Miss’ defense struggled, giving up 510 yards of offense to Georgia. The Bulldogs were especially dominant in the ground game, where they amassed 221 rushing yards.
If Ole Miss isn’t careful, Oklahoma could follow in Georgia’s footsteps. In the Sooners’ win over South Carolina on Saturday, OU freshman running back Tory Blaylock made a name for himself, rattling off a game-high 101 rushing yards and a score.

Moreover, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer looked much improve after having a lackluster outing against Texas in Week 7. Mateer will look to build on his momentum against the Rebels this weekend. Each team is entering the game with one loss and the CFP committee will undoubtedly be watching.
Oklahoma and Ole Miss will face off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. The game will air live on ABC.
