Is NASCAR about to have a repeat of Auto Club Speedway? The Kansas City Chiefs are looking for land for a new stadium. A new report out of local Kansas City-area media says that the Chiefs have their eyes on land near Kansas Speedway.

The area that hosts Kansas Speedway has drastically changed since it was built. You could argue that without the Speedway, most of the development in that area would not be what it is today. There is the track, the casino, and more and more things pop up in what used to be fields around the venue. Is the NFL coming next?

But now, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking for a new home. While it is early in the process, there is land by the speedway that NASCAR owns and simply does not use. Currently, according to the Kansas Reflector, radio and podcast host Kevin Kietzman says there are 880 acres of land owned by NASCAR. The racing series only uses about 300 of those acres.

Now, for NASCAR fans, calm down. This is not an Auto Club Speedway situation like in California. This is a situation in which NASCAR has purchased more land than was needed and has an opportunity to make money on the investment. However, there still remain a lot of steps between now and a sale of land, and a lot more before a stadium is built anywhere.

Pete Mundo of KCMO also corroborated reports about the new Chiefs’ stadium and where the organization is looking. According to Mundo, he expects the team to remain in Missouri. But if Patrick Mahomes and company do make a move to Kansas, the Speedway area has the room.

NASCAR can make big money on Kansas City Chiefs deal

When you look at the potential of a deal, it makes sense for NASCAR. It might also make sense for Kansas City and the Chiefs. Village West, where the Kansas Speedway is located, is a growing area. Again, thanks to things like the Speedway.

While land in Kansas isn’t going to cost as much as in California, there’s a lot of it. It is desirable land, and a new stadium is going to cost a ton of money. A scenario like this is also likely to fetch top dollar for the land. The Chiefs aren’t going to throw a low-ball offer on the table if this is where they want the team to be.

The State of Kansas is set to help with the project monetarily. There will be up to 70% financing of the project through the state. It will be a minimum $1 billion as well. That’s a lot of money being thrown around. Right now, NASCAR is in a good position to get some of that.

Then again, the Kansas City Chiefs might remain in Missouri after all. Moving a franchise’s stadium can have a massive impact. Not just on the team, but the communities involved. The Chiefs will eventually move out of Arrowhead. Will they be neighbors with NASCAR soon?
