Jac Caglianone was a top-ten draft pick last summer by the Kansas City Royals. Now, a year later, he’s getting his call up to the major leagues.

Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Sunday night, Kansas City is calling up Caglianone. That’s after working his way up through Double-A and Triple-A, where he made just a couple of appearances as of late, with 50 games played into now making it into the MLB.

Ironically enough, Caglianone spoke about what it would be like to get the call-up earlier today in an interview with Olivia Eisenhauer at WCJB. He said it’s what he, as well as his younger self, would have expected him to finally do one day.

“He probably would have been like, yeah, you’re right, like, it’s definitely going to happen,” said Caglianone. “I think, ever since I could grasp the concept of being a professional baseball player, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. So, I think he would be expecting that answer. So, yeah, I think he’d be excited but he’d definitely be like, good, I mean, that’s what we wanted.”

Through 79 games, with 315 at bats, in the minors with Quad Cities, Northwest Arkansas, and Omaha, Caglianone is batting .292/.358/.517 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI. Go to just this season with Northwest Arkansas and Omaha and Caglianone has upped those to .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI.

This comes after Caglianone spent three seasons playing for Florida. He batted .355/.447/.760 with 79 home runs and 189 RBI while in college, while also pitching as well, as a multiple time national and conference honoree for the Gators.

That’s a much-need offensive punch for Kansas City. The Royals have scored the second-fewest amount of runs this season in the entire league behind a historically bad team at the moment in the Colorado Rockies. He should also be a help to them defensively playing in the outfield after transitioning out there as he formerly played first base as well. All that coming to a team that’s just over .500 on the season at 31-29 overall coming out of this weekend’s series.

It wasn’t going to take long for Caglianone to get to the bigs considering the kind of prospect he is. That now times in at just at a year or so with him joining the Royals officially going into a series at Saint Louis starting on Tuesday.
