Report: Liverpool to pay remaining $20 million contract to Diogo Jota's family after tragic death

The Premier League and International soccer communities were recently rocked by the shocking death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother. Now, Liverpool is reportedly looking to take care of his family in the wake of the tragedy.
Per Front Office Sports, Liverpool is set to pay out the remainder of Jota’s $20 million contract to his wife and children. While that money will in no way bring him back, it is enough money where his family should be able to be financially secure moving forward.
At just 28 years old, Diogo Jota was traveling with his brother, Andre Silva, in Spain. There, they got into a car accident that cost both brothers their lives. This occurred in the Zamora region of Sanabria. There, officials say that firefighters responded to a car that had caught on fire. Emergency services had been called shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday. Initially, a blown out tire has been blamed for the accident.
“The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking,” the Guardia Civil announced. “It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora.”
A native of Portugal, Diogo Jota began his youth career back in 2005 with Gondomar. By 2014, he’d begin his senior career with Paços de Ferreira. In 2020, Jota would then join Liverpool, going to the club from Wolverhampton for around $40 million. With Liverpool, he’d end up making 123 career appearances. During that time, he managed to score 47 goals.

Now, Liverpool has sought to do the right thing financially with his passing. This came after the club released its initial statement on the incident.

An internationally renowned player, Diogo Jota would represent his native Portugal in International play. For the Portuguese National Team, he’d make 49 appearances and score 14 goals. However, he would miss the 2022 World Cup due to a calf injury.
Around the world, there have now been tributes to Diogo Jota. That included Mexican star Raul Jimenez, who played with Jota when they were with Wolverhampton, pulled out a Jota jersey following a goal he scored in the Concacaf Gold Cup final.
