Report: Pittsburgh Steelers signing WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling

The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Valdes-Scantling was a free agent and a former teammate of Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers.
Valdes-Scantling spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Packers. Of course, each of those seasons he spent catching balls from Rodgers. During their time together, Valdes-Scantling and Rodgers connected on 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.
His career-high in receiving yards came during his third season with the Packers in 2020, playing in all 16 games and hauling in 690 receiving yards and six touchdowns. The latter is also a career-high.
Valdes-Scantling would leave Green Bay after four seasons and played two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He won Super Bowl rings in both of those seasons, and totaled just over 1,000 receiving yards while catching balls with Patrick Mahomes during that stretch.
He began the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills before catching only two passes through six games. He was released and eventually picked up mid-season by the New Orleans Saints. In eight games, he was able to make the most of his first venture playing for a team that’s not in win-now made. He caught 17 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns during his second chance.

He’d eventually sign with the Seattle Seahawks on a one-year, $4 million contract with $3 million guaranteed. Valdes-Scantling was eventually cut before the start of the regular season, leaving him to sign with the San Francisco 49ers.
Valdes-Scantling was placed on injured reserve after five games played, and was released earlier this month with an injury settlement. Per Jordan Schultz, it was just over a week later that Valdes-Scantling was set to work out for the Steelers. Now, he’s back on a roster for the third different team since the beginning of the 2025 offseason.
In total, Valdes-Scantling has logged 209 career receptions including 3,606 yards and 20 touchdowns. Most of that production came when he was a Packer alongside Rodgers. Now, the two are reunited in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers will take on the Indianapolis Colts at home on Sunday. The opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS. After that, they’ll head to LA to take on the Chargers for Sunday Night Football during Week 10.
