An active shooting situation has taken place at 345 Park Ave in Manhattan, the headquarters of the NFL, according to reports. One police officer was killed and several civilians have reportedly been shot. Local law enforcement are on the scene.

According to NFL insider Jeff Darlington, he’s told that NFL employees at 345 Park Ave “have been told to shelter in place after reports of gunfire nearby.” He revealed that employees were sent the following message: “Do not exit the building. Secure your location and hide until law enforcement clears your floor. Please switch phones to silent.”

Ari Meirov was on the scene in Manhattan as police responded to the incident. He posted the following video outside of the building:

NYC mayor Eric Adams has warned residents to avoid the area. The NYPD said on social media for those in the area to expect emergency vehicles and delays due to police activity.

ABC News soon reported that the shooter “killed himself.” Their police sources state that he committed suicide after fleeing into the building, which houses both the NFL HQ as well as Blackstone, which is an investment company. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor, where he was presumedly found by law enforcement.

The NYPD first alerted to the active shooting at 6:50 p.m. At 7:52 p.m., NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch confirmed that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

Initially, one police officer and civilian were reported to have been injured by gunfire during the incident. Their immediate conditions were not known, but it was reported that the police officer later died at the hospital, according to the New York Post.

They revealed that that fatalities and injuries did not stop at two. Including the officer, “at least four other people were shot and killed — and at least six others (were) injured” in the shooting. The New York Post said that their sources expect the number of victims to rise as law enforcement clears the building.

The Post identified the shooter as 27-year-old Shane Tamura who is from Las Vegas. Photos from outside of the building circulated around social media depicting the suspect appearing to casually walk up to the building at 345 Park Ave with a rifle in-hand. Tamura reportedly began to open fire at around 6:30 p.m. before turning the gun on himself.

A witness described the incident to The Post. They said it sounded like a barrage of shots, like an automatic weapon. “Like a high-capacity weapon.”
