President Donald Trump plans to announce on Monday that Washington D.C. will host the 2027 NFL Draft, according to Axios. The announcement is expected to be made with Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the White House.

This news comes shortly after Green Bay hosted this year’s draft. The first round of the draft was a huge success as 13.6 million viewers watched it across television and digital platforms. Additionally, the NFL announced that 205,000 fans attended the first round in Green Bay.

Last year, the NFL announced that the 2026 NFL Draft will be held in Pittsburgh. “The NFL Draft is one of the biggest, most-anticipated sporting events of the year, and we’re thrilled to partner with the Pittsburgh Steelers and VisitPITTSBURGH for our 2026 event,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement. “We have a unique opportunity to spotlight this wonderful community on a global stage, benefiting Pittsburgh’s economy and entertaining football fans from all markets. We know this pride of Pennsylvania will shine bright in 2026.”

Shortly after the NFL announced that next year’s NFL Draft would be held in Pittsburgh, the National Park Service confirmed to the Washington Post that Washington D.C. was working on a bid to host the 2027 draft. “The National Park Service has provided a letter of support to Events DC [the organization in negotiation with the NFL] for the NFL draft ‘to the degree that portions identified to take place on the National Mall can be organized and managed within the special event, sponsor recognition, and turf management guidelines in place for this iconic cultural landscape,'” National Park Service (NPS) chief of communications Mike Litterst said in a statement.

Hosting the 2027 NFL Draft is big for Washington D.C. and the Commanders. This comes days after the team and D.C. officials announced a plan to bring the Commanders back to the city with a new stadium on the site of the old RFK Stadium. The Commanders currently play their games at the now-called Northwest Stadium in Prince George’s County, Maryland, located five miles east of Washington D.C.
