Report: Rashee Rice to have disciplinary hearing September 30, likely available for first four weeks of NFL season

On July 17, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days of jail time for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason. Rice will likely serve a multi-game suspension, but news broke on Thursday that it wouldn’t be at the beginning of the 2025 season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning that Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in New York. This would mean that the Chiefs wide receiver will likely now be able to play the first four weeks of this season before any potential discipline is imposed for the incident.

A Dallas County judge sentenced Rice, who can serve his jail sentence during the five-year probation. The crash happened on March 30, 2024, when Rice, who was driving a Lamborghini, was racing Theodore Knox, who was driving a Corvette. Rice reportedly told police he lost control of his vehicle, which caused a crash involving six cars.

Rashee Rice missed most of the 2024 season

Rice is looking to bounce back in 2025 after missing the majority of the 2024 season due to LCL and hamstring injuries. He played in four games last year and caught 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. 

Rice suffered the injury after colliding with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “When I saw the replay, I felt like s**t that I hit Rashee,” Mahomes said in October, per ESPN. “I wasn’t really worried about myself, I was worried about his injury and hopefully that it wasn’t as bad as it looked. I was the one that hit him, but didn’t notice it in the moment because I was more worried about trying to get the ball. Obviously, he’s just trying to make a play, and it happens whenever you’re trying to make tackles.”

The Chiefs selected Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Rice caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 regular-season games. He helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, catching six passes for 39 yards in a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
