Report: Seattle Seahawks signing veteran RB Cam Akers
Veteran NFL running back Cam Akers is set to join the Seattle Seahawks, a team that is looking to make a Super Bowl run. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks are signing Akers to the active roster.
Cam Akers spent the early part of the 2025 season with the Minnesota Vikings and recorded 19 rushing yards on five carries in three games. The Vikings signed Akers to their practice squad in September, and the team released him earlier this week. During the offseason, Akers joined the New Orleans Saints but was released by the team at the end of August.
Akers began his NFL career in 2020 when the Los Angeles Rams selected him in the second round of the draft. He was with the Rams for nearly four seasons and rushed for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns in 30 games. Akers was a member of the Rams team that won the Super Bowl during the 2021 season.
Early in the 2023 season, the Rams traded Akers to the Vikings. He played in six games with the Vikings before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. In 2024, the Houston Texans signed Akers, and he played in five games before the team traded him to the Vikings. In Akers’ career, he has rushed for 2,044 yards and 13 touchdowns in 56 games.

Cam Akers is joining a talented Seahawks team
The Seahawks are looking for depth at the running back position after George Holani suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s Week 12 win over the Tennessee Titans. As a backup running back, Holani has rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries in 11 games this season.
Kenneth Walker III is the Seahawks’ starting RB and has rushed for 677 yards and four touchdowns this year. He’s a big reason Seattle is 8-3 and one game behind the Los Angeles Rams for the NFC West lead.
“I thought he did a great job,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said about Walker after the Titans game this past Sunday. “It was great to see Zach (Charbonnet) punch it in the red zone. We wanted to run — those guys played well together. Thought they protected the quarterback well. We caught it well out of the backfield. Yeah, I felt Ken (Walker) today. He made some explosive plays for us, which was great.”
