Report: Steelers discuss potential Deshaun Watson signing rumors
A source within the Pittsburgh Steelers has commented on the team’s interest level for quarterback Deshaun Watson, a new report claims. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Gerry Dulac, the Steelers have no interest in signing the Texans’ quarterback, regardless of any reports otherwise.
Steelers not interested in Deshaun Watson
“Steelers ARE NOT interested in signing Deshaun Watson,” said Dulac on Wednesday. “Despite what you might be hearing or reading, per team sources.”
Although the Steelers themselves have not made an official statement regarding the future of their quarterback position, it appears that attempting to bring in Watson as a solution is not one they will be taking. Watson’s name has come up as a potential replacement for the recently-retired Ben Roethlisberger, as the Steelers are without a franchise quarterback for the first time in nearly two decades.
As the former Pro Bowl quarterback continues to await the outcome of his off-field legal issues, his time in Houston came to an end prior to the 2021 NFL season. As a player still under contract however, Watson and the Texans have been in trade talks with seemingly any team in the league that needs a quarterback as they look to trade him. According to Dulac, the Steelers are not one of those teams.

The rumors kicked off in earnest on Wednesday following a Tweet from former NFL quarterback Shaun King. It appears that his comment on the potential trade is what prompted Dulac to relay what his source within the organization said.
“Hearing if things go well Friday Deshaun Watson to the Steelers is happening soon after,” stated King.
The Texans have reportedly been involved in trade talks with multiple teams to find a new home for Watson, even without his ongoing legal issues being resolved. Watson has been accused in 22 civil lawsuits and 10 criminal complaints of sexual misconduct and sexual assault — a major factor in his inability to see the playing field over the past year.
