Richard Childress Racing announces Sheldon Creed won't return as No. 2 driver
Richard Childress Racing announced Wednesday that Sheldon Creed won’t return behind the wheel of the No. 2 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024.
“Sheldon Creed will not be returning as driver of the No. 2 Whelen Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024,” RCR said in a statement. “We will make an announcement regarding the driver of the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet in the near future.”
Creed, 26, has spent the last two Xfinity Series seasons with RCR. Though winless, Creed qualified for the playoffs this season after finishing 14th in the points standings in 2022. Creed has finished as the runner-up three times this season, and third two times.
Prior to joining RCR, Creed spent three full-time seasons driving the No. 2 Chevrolet for GMS Racing in the Craftsman Truck Series. Creed was wildly successful in trucks, winning a championship in 2020 and reaching victory lane eight times in 76 starts.
Creed made his Cup Series debut this season in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Piloting the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports, Creed finished 29th.

Sheldon Creed chasing NASCAR Xfinity Series championship
Creed has yet to comment on RCR’s decision. For now, his focus is on the Xfinity Series playoffs, and his ongoing quest to win a championship. Creed qualified for the Round of 8 after picking up a P10 result in this past Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 250 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course.
“It’s the happiest I’ve ever been to run 10th,” Creed said after the race. “Probably the hardest I’ve had to work for one, maybe not the hardest. I have to work hard for 10th a lot, but I don’t know. I’m happy for the guys. I’m happy for the team. Not so much myself, but I’m happier for everyone else who works on the thing and works in the shop.
“They put a lot of hours in to make it all happen and to see us make the Round of 8, it’s a big deal for everyone. And, yeah, I just hope we can be something in this next round.”
