Richard Childress Racing leans into Austin Dillon's controversial Richmond win with hype video

Austin Dillon won the Cook Out 400 in controversial fashion and the story might not yet be done, with the potential for NASCAR to hand down penalties after it completes a post-race review this week.
But that won’t stop Dillon or Richard Childress Racing from leaning into the win.
On Wednesday, perhaps mere hours before NASCAR announces its decision, RCR released a hype video featuring Dillon’s win set to the tune of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird.” It included the caption: “We’re not done yet.”
Check it out below.
The video begins with a race broadcaster commenting on what a win might mean for Dillon at the Richmond Raceway.
“How much of a shakeup would it be if the 3 can get up here and win this race and win his way back into the playoffs?”
Then the video shows Austin Dillon racing his way through the finish line and lifting up one finger to the crowd, indicating his first-place finish. It was a big one. Potentially.
As things stand, the win would qualify Dillon for the playoffs when he had no chance of making it there on points alone. So it was a big win. If it stands.

NASCAR does have the ability to rescind the playoff spot if it deems that the driving was detrimental to the sport. That’s to be determined.
As for his part, Austin Dillon was thrilled with the win on Sunday, admitting he did what he thought he had to in order to win. That included making contact with Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin both, sending them spinning in the final turn and ruining their respective races after the race had gone into overtime.
“I told myself, ‘Hey look, you’re in a position to win, stay focused,’” Dillon said. “Pit crew did a good job, put me where I needed to be. The restart, I thought the No. 22 fired pretty early, and he was able to be even with me, getting into Turn 1, and his car was a little better on the reds. When we went into Turn 3, at the end, I just had to go for it.
“I went in, sent it in there, got him loose up the track, and then I was able to down-shift and get left, and I saw the No. 11 come across, and at that time it was a reaction, but yeah, it’s part of this deal. You win and you’re in, and that was my opportunity.”
That’s certainly one way to view it.
Many commenters on the Austin Dillon hype video had other takes entirely. Responding to the caption, one user wrote: “You’re not done wrecking people?”
NASCAR is expected to announce any penalties stemming from Richmond on Wednesday.
