Richard Childress Racing (RCR) is set to make a team announcement ahead of the Cup Series race at Michigan Speedway on Sunday. Davey Segal of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio said the announcement will happen at 11:15 am ET. He also said that there will be another team announcement on Saturday at 9:45 am, and Haas Factory Team has an announcement set for Saturday at 11:30 am.

This comes after NASCAR announced that RCR driver Austin Dillon had his playoff berth revoked after wrecking Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin to win the Cook Out 400 at Richmond on Sunday. RCR said it would appeal the decision.

After the race, RCR owner Richard Childress was asked about Dillon hitting Hamlin and Logano during the final lap. “When I seen him go down the backstretch, like Justin said, we had the race till the 47 and whoever went in there and wrecked. We had such a big lead on the 11. Oh man, I said,” Childress said.

“I didn’t do anything. We just waited till the restart. The 22 jumped outside and got in front. I knew what he knew he had to do going in. They would have done it to him, you know? It’s one of those deals that when it comes down to winning a race and you’re in that position, you’re hungry, you do what it takes. That’s what I told him all his life.”

It’s not been a great year, for RCR and the team will fight to get it’s playoff spot back. Dale Earnhardt Jr. spoke about the incident on Dale Jr. Download and made the case for RCR to appeal the decision.

Why Richard Childress Racing should appeal NASCAR’s decision on Austin Dillon

“I might not be surprised, I guess, if Richard’s initial reaction is to appeal it because we heard how dismissive he was of all of the things everybody was trying to show him in the post-race media center about the audio on the radio. … He truly believed, like, there’s no way that was going on when, in truth, it was, Earnhardt said.

“I could see them using the SMT data and trying to go and make a case against what happened on that last lap. I believe that this penalty, in my opinion, this penalty for Austin resolves around the contact with Denny Hamlin. Not the 22. I could be wrong, but I believe that if Austin knocks the 22 out of the way and that’s the end result, none of this ever happens. I think the penalty is from the contact with the 11.”
