Dallas Cowboys guard Rob Jones suffered a broken bone in his neck during Sunday’s practice. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Jones is expected to miss significant time.

“Sources: Cowboys guard Rob Jones, who has been working with the starting unit during the early part of training camp, broke a bone in his neck during Sunday’s practice,” Schefter wrote on Twitter. “And now is expected to miss 2-3 months, per Todd Archer and me.”

Jones was set to enter his first season with the Cowboys following four years with the Miami Dolphins. He signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State in 2021.

This offseason, with the Dolphins electing not to re-sign him, Jones chose the Cowboys in free agency. He signed a one-year, $4.75 million deal.

Over the course of his career, Jones played in 49 games. The new Cowboys guard, who will now be on the mend, started 30 games in the last four years.

Rob Jones injury latest Cowboys drama at training camp

Jones’ injury was the latest drama at Dallas Cowboys training camp. This comes on the heels of EVP Stephen Jones taking a shot at franchise star pass rusher Micah Parsons amid the latter’s contract negotiations.

“It doesn’t change anything,” Jones said, via Jon Machota. “We want to pay Micah too. He’s gotta want to be paid.”

Schefter believes the move from Parsons wound up being “counterproductive,” as we continue to wait. Schefter admitted it’s easy to see why Parsons thought the right thing was being done, making progress toward the extension being finalized.

“I think Micah, probably, in hindsight, looking at all of this and reviewing it all — Micah probably went further than he should have in a solo way, thinking he was doing a good thing,” Schefter said Wednesday via 105.3 The Fan. “Actually, it was probably counterproductive in the long term to getting a deal done.”
