The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign former Florida State defensive tackle Robert Cooper, the team announced Saturday. Cooper most recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks, but they waived him last week to make room on the 90-man roster.

Cooper spent the last five years in Tallahassee as a key part of the FSU defensive line. Last year, he totaled 19 tackles and a tackle for loss across 13 games.

In 2021, though, Cooper turned in one of the best years of his career. He had 39 tackles to go with 4.5 tackles for loss and half a sack as his NFL hopes continued to rise. The Seahawks originally signed him as an undrafted free agent in April, but waived him shortly thereafter. They re-signed him earlier this month before waiving him again to make room for wide receiver signing Ra’Shaun Henry.

Robert Cooper was one of many roster moves the Eagles made Saturday

The Eagles announced multiple roster moves on Saturday along with Cooper’s signing. They released cornerback Greedy Williams and punter Ty Zentner. Williams — a former LSU standout — was signed by the Eagles this offseason after he spent four years with the Cleveland Browns.

Wiliams was a second round draft pick out of LSU by the Browns in the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the course of his career, Williams had 99 total tackles, 78 solo tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass deflections and one forced fumble.

In addition to signing Cooper, the Eagles also brought in defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, defensive tackle Caleb Sanders, linebacker Tyreek Maddox-Williams and linebacker Quinton Bell.

Philadelphia also announced the decisions to waive wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, defensive back Noah Elliss and cornerback Zech McPherson with injury designations.

By adding Wilson, the Eagles added another former Florida State standout. He played for the Seminoles from 2017-20, meaning he and Cooper played together for three years. During his time in Tallahassee, Wilson totaled 109 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks over four years.

After going undrafted in 2021, Wilson signed with the Browns before spending time on and off the Eagles’ practice squad the last few years.

Philadelphia is coming off its second preseason game earlier this week in which they tied with the Browns 18-18. The Eagles will wrap up the preseason Aug. 24 against the Indianapolis Colts before starting the regular season Sept. 10 against the New England Patriots.
