Surprise, surprise. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner and former Baylor Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III is really fast. The now 32-year-old quarterback is currently out of the league and in the commentary booth for ESPN. Over the weekend, Griffin took part in the Run Rich Run charity event held by Rich Eisen, dropping an elite level 40-time at the event. And on Tuesday, Griffin was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show and revealed multiple NFL teams reached out after the show he put on.

“Yes, I did get some calls because of that 4.48,” said Griffin. “Yeah, got some calls. I would say it was shocking, but when it’s been ten years and a number of wear and tear on the body, to run .07 slower than I did at the combine, I think that piqued some team’s interest.”

After capturing the 2011 Heisman Trophy and leading the Bears to a 10-3 record, including a 67-56 victory over the Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl, Griffin wowed scouts at the NFL combine with his speed. Griffin ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine.

Griffin on if he’d come back and where to if he did

So the question remains, after taking the year off from the NFL, is the desire still there to play for the former second overall pick? And Griffin answers that question and then some.

“The desire to play is still there, and you know I’ve just been blessed that ESPN is giving me an opportunity to do what I’ve done for the past eight months in the broadcast world; while also understanding that I still have a desire to play.

“After being out of football for a year, you know the likelihood of being able to get back in goes down significantly. But I did that in 2017 when I was out at the age of 27 and came back with the Baltimore Ravens. They gave me an opportunity to go in there and be a mentor for Lamar Jackson. So, we’ll see if one of these teams that have a young quarterback wanna bring me into the building and kind of be that for their young guy. But yeah, you’d be talking offseason program mini camps or training camp, all that type of stuff.”

There are a few teams who took a flyer out on some of the young quarterback talent in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Steelers took Kenny Pickett, the Titans went with Malik Willis, and the Falcons went with Desmond Ritter. According to Griffin, one of these situations, along with a surprise destination, would be the ideal situation for him to land in.

“I’ve been reached out to from a plethora of teams. But going back home to Texas with the Dallas Cowboys, I know a lot of Washington fans don’t want to hear that, but that would be a great situation for me. The Atlanta Falcons; being there with Mariota and Ritter would be a great situation for me; and going in Chicago with Justin fields to try to help as much as I possibly can in that quarterback room would also be a great situation.”
