Robert Kraft reveals he hopes to build a Bill Belichick statue next to Tom Brady's

The New England Patriots dynasty from 2001-2018 is arguably one of the greatest runs in the history of American sports.
Over that span, future Hall of Fame head coach Bill Belichick and future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady led the organization to a 291-122 record with six Lombardi Trophies and nine AFC Championships. Brady, who also had his No. 12 jersey retired by the Patriots, had his statue unveiled outside of Gillette Stadium on Aug. 8.
During an interview with WBZ Boston Sports on Wednesday, Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed that Belichick’s statue will be next following his stint at North Carolina.
“When that great 20-year era ended, it was always my intention to commission a statue for both Tommy [Tom Brady] and Bill (Belichick) when their respective careers were over; both playing and coaching. When Bill’s coaching career ends, we look forward to sitting down with him and having a statue made to be right next to Tommy.”
Belichick stepped down as New England’s head coach following the 2023 season and took 2024 off before surprisingly agreeing to become North Carolina‘s head coach prior to the 2025 college football season. The legendary head coach had been coaching since 1975, but got his first taste of college football in North Carolina‘s season opener against TCU on Sept. 1.

Belichick’s North Carolina opener did not go quite as planned…
Although the Tar Heels marched down the field and immediately took a 7-0 lead, the Horned Frogs went on a 41-0 run to take a 41-7 lead over Carolina 6:56 remaining in the third quarter. The final score settled at 48-14 in favor of TCU, marking a rough start to the Belichick era in Chapel Hill.
Their 48-14 (34 point) loss was the largest home loss by an ACC team in a season opener against an unranked team since Duke got shutout 38-0 by East Carolina on Sept. 2, 2000.
“They outplayed us, outcoached us, and they were just better than we were tonight,” Belichick said following the loss. “That’s all there was to it. They did a lot more things right than we did.”
No matter how his stint goes with North Carolina however, nobody can ever take away the accomplishments he enjoyed during his time with New England. All of those wins and Super Bowl achievements will eventually pay off in a statue for the 73-year-old, but we’ll have to wait until after his tenure in ‘Chapel Bill’ wraps up.
