How Will Michigan Recruiting Change Under Sherrone Moore? | Gatlin Bair Set to Commit

Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson has a few traits that should definitely appeal to NFL scouts. Wilson broke out in 2023 after having more of a role for the national champs.

The Wolverines’ pass catcher had his best season and might not be a first round pick in this loaded class. But, NFL scouts should pay attention.

He explained why on The Insiders on NFL Network Tuesday.

“I feel like to get to know me, I’m a good guy, charismatic, easy to talk to, easy to come by,” Wilson said. “I love football, love coming out here and running routes. Yea, I’m born and raised in Hawaii. I’m a Hawaii boy. I just love being outside and having fun.”

Wilson finished this season with 48 catches, 789 yards, 12 touchdowns and 16.4 yards per catch. Over the course of four years, Wilson had 107 catches, 1,707 yards, 20 touchdowns and 16 yards per catch.

As a member of the Class of 2020, Wilson was a four-star recruit out of Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 3 overall prospect in the state, the No. 47 wide receiver in the class and the No. 268 overall prospect in the class.

“Roman Wilson from Michigan can absolutely fly,” NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano said at the beginning of Senior Bowl practice. “One of my favorite things from these practices is that my phone always blows up from buddies with [NFL] teams that are here,” Jeremiah said after practice. “I just got a text that said, ‘I feel pretty good about my Roman Wilson grade.’”

In the team period of the Senior Bowl, Wilson impressed with a catch on a deep crossing route from Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the Heisman Trophy runner-up who Michigan faced and beat in the national championship game. Wilson began the play in the slot left and made the catch for an 18-yard gain along the right sideline.

“Roman Wilson, you saw it in the one-one-ones, you saw it there: His game is all about speed,” NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah said. “Those crossers, he can separate. Nice job of using his hands to extend and grab that one — and a beautiful throw by Penix, taking a little off that.”

The NFL Draft is set to begin on April 25th and runs through Saturday the 27th.
