The NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas is just around the corner. Ross Chastain will be in the rear to start the race. Chastain got into the wall during practice and is hoping to replicate his Coca-Cola 600 performance by racing from the rear to the win.

Trackhouse Racing is going to have their hands full today. While they no longer have a driver in the playoff hunt, the organization is searching for wins. We know that Ross Chastain is capable of incredible things late in the year. Will his luck pull through in Vegas?

The No. 1 team went ahead and made repairs to the No. 1 car. The damaged car qualified P15 for Chastain on Saturday. Not terrible. Does this Chevy have more speed than we think it does? Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports captured the work going on in the garage area.

Looking at the situation, there is cause for concern. However, Ross Chastain has done this once before this season. Chastain dropped to the rear for the Coca-Cola 600. Then, he drove from last to first and took the win in the closing laps over William Byron.

Since that win, Chastain has only recorded four top-10 finishes. Given the tough races that Chastain has had recently, he could use a strong, come-from-behind race at Las Vegas. He doesn’t have to win, but show that Trackhouse has legitimate speed somewhere on the schedule.

Truthfully, I still don’t trust ECR engines. We have seen too many issues from Kaulig, Trackhouse, and RCR for it to be a coincidence. Something isn’t lining up on that end as far as the Cup Series is concerned.

Ross Chastain got into the wall in practice

During the Cup Series practice session on Saturday, Ross Chastain made a few laps around the track. Then, the No. 1 car was sliding up the track and into the wall. Chastain did a bit of a wall ride, but not like the one he had at Martinsville in 2022.

The damage looked like it was going to be pretty severe. He scraped the right side of his car down the wall for quite a distance. But, Chastain was still able to qualify in his Chevy. He fell in the middle of the pack, and honestly, P15 isn’t the worst that this team has qualified this season.

So, the damage was enough to make repairs for the race, but not for qualifying. I have a feeling that Ross Chastain has a little extra speed in the car this week. It got away from him, but if Charlotte taught us anything it’s that when this team is on it, they can do anythinng.
