Ryan Blaney calls out Chris Buescher after tough result at Sonoma: 'Was going well until we got wrecked'

Ryan Blaney didn’t hold back when asked about his incident with Chris Buescher at the NASCAR Cup Series Sonoma race on Sunday afternoon. While speaking with Frontstretch, Blaney shared his reaction to being hit by Buescher and finishing at the back of the field.
“It was going well until we got wrecked by the 17,” Ryan Blaney said. Blaney was then asked if Chris Buescher simply wrecked him.
“I don’t know. You got to talk to him,” Blaney added. “I don’t think he intentionally meant to do it, but he overdrove (Turn) 1, and I was the innocent bystander.” Blaney then said he believed he was going to finish in the top five before the wreck.

“I thought we were really good today,” he stated. “Third, fourth, fifth-place car, and yeah, shame that it didn’t end like I thought. We had speed in our car, so it’s unfortunate.”

The incident with Balney and Buescher happened on Lap 62, and both cars were running in the top 10. After Blaney was pushed by Buescher, he could never recover and finished 36th out of 37 drivers. This was the second time in three races that Blaney was involved in a wreck that cost him a strong finish. In late June, Blaney was caught up in a multi-car wreck at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta that ended his night.
“As usual for this year, got caught up in someone else’s mess,” Blaney said after being clear from the infield care center, per NASCAR.com. “I got to the apron and there was really nowhere else for me to go but the apron. I tried to get there and get clear of it, but they kind of came down and got me in the right-rear and I ended up in the fence. There was no missing that one.”
Blaney has dealt with some bad luck this year, but it hasn’t been all bad. The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion won the Nashville race and finished in the top five in six other races. After the Sonoma race, Blaney came in at sixth in the playoff standings and seventh in Cup points.
