Ryder Cup 2025: President Donald Trump reacts to Team USA's tough morning start

Team USA is not off to a good start this morning on the first day of the Ryder Cup. That’s despite the Commander in Chief doing what he could to support them in flying above Bethpage.
Air Force One took off and flew over Farmingdale, New York, where Team Europe is currently up 3-0, and could shut out Team USA in foursomes this morning at 4-0, at the Ryder Cup. After landing, Donald Trump spoke with the media in saying it was his attempt to cheer on the Americans despite the poor start.
Trump is now set to be in attendance at the event today as well. He will watch with Kai Trump, his granddaughter, who golfs as a senior in high school right now and is committed to play in college at Miami.
The opening round just finished, with the United States avoiding the shutout in the final foursome against the Europeans as they are up 3-1. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay salvaged the round in winning by two over Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland. That’s after Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton (4-3) won over Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas, Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick (5-3) won over Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley, and then Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood (5-4) won over Collin Morikawa and Harris English.

The golfers will return to the course this afternoon to play best ball in the four-ball portion of the competition. Those tee times have since been set, with Team USA having a deficit to make up after what happened in the opening matches on Friday morning.
Michael Jordan reacts to disastrous morning for Team USA at Ryder Cup: ‘We got problems’
The first morning of the Ryder Cup couldn’t have gone much worse for Team USA. It has already led to national reaction, including that from Michael Jordan in attendance in Farmingdale.
Jordan is there on Friday at Bethpage taking in the Ryder Cup with the first foursomes teeing off this morning between Team USA and Team Europe. However, with the Americans starting down 3-0 immediately, even MJ could see how this was going for the United States to start out.
“We got problems,” Jordan said to James Colgan at GOLF.com this morning.
