The Seattle Seahawks have elevated former Miami wide receiver Philip Dorsett from the practice squad to the active roster, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. The team also placed rookie wide receiver D’Wayne Eskridge on injury reserve, creating space on the active roster.

Dorsett joined the Seahawks practice squad after he was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this season. He played seven offensive snaps during the Jaguars Week Three loss against the Arizona Cardinals.

Philip Dorsett spent the 2020 season with the Seahawks but missed the entire year with a foot injury. Now healthy, the team is taking a second look at Dorsett as a potential third option behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

More about Philip Dorsett

Philip Dorsett was a two-sport star in high school, dominating on the football field and the track. The three-star recruit chose Miami over Ohio State, Georgia and others.

Over four seasons at Miami, Dorsett caught 121 passes for 2,132 yards and 17 receptions. He had a breakout season as a senior, catching 10 touchdowns for the Hurricanes in 2014.

He was drafted No. 29 overall in the 2015 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He spent two seasons with the Colts before joining the New England Patriots from 2017-19.

Another former Seahawk gets second chance

Josh Gordon was granted another chance by the NFL after an indefinite suspension, and now, the former All-Pro wide receiver will make his debut Sunday for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday named Gordon to their 53-man roster, according to multiple reports, just over one week after he signed with the franchise. He spent a week on the practice squad, getting situated and learning the playbook; now, the Baylor Bears product will get a call-up for Sunday night’s contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Well before his return with the Chiefs, Gordon was suspended indefinitely in December 2019 for violations of the league’s policies on substance abuse and performance-enhancing substances. That was Gordon’s sixth suspension since the 2013 season and his fifth related to substance abuse. He was reinstated by the NFL once in 2020, but the conditional reinstatement did not go as planned; he had a setback in his recovery, so Gordon was forced to wait until he was handed another reinstatement in 2020.

When active, Gordon has proven to be one of the NFL’s most lethal wide receivers. He lived up to the nickname “Flash” during a seven-year NFL career. Gordon has started just 56 games, hauling in 4,256 receiving yards on 247 catches with 20 receiving touchdowns.
