Former San Diego State and current Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny recorded his first touchdown of the season Sunday against the Houston Texans.

With just two seconds left on the clock in the first quarter, Penny took a handoff from Russell Wilson, ran up the middle, made his way to the right side and broke a tackle before getting into the end zone for the score.

Penny, who’s in his fourth season with Seattle, has tallied 27 carries for 78 yards in five games in 2021. Over his time with the Seahawks, and prior to Sunday’s game, Penny had recorded 901 yards and five touchdowns in 32 career games.

The Seahawks – who are 4-8 on the year – and Houston are tied at 10-10 midway through the second quarter. The game is being broadcast on FOX.

Seattle Seahawks make surprise decision on Adrian Peterson

The Seattle Seahawks elevated newly signed running back Adrian Peterson from the practice squad last week, and he played in last Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers – rushing for 16 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Peterson made his 2021 season debut on Nov. 7 with the Tennessee Titans against the Los Angeles Rams. After three weeks in Nashville, the Titans waived the former Minnesota Vikings star.

The running back brings a decorated NFL career to Seattle that spans 15 seasons. A former MVP and seven-time Pro Bowler, the longevity of his career is something most players at his position don’t see. He ranks fifth all-time in career rushing yards and his 2,097 yards in 2012 are the second-most ever in a single season.

Peterson played his college ball at Oklahoma, bursting on to the scene as a freshman. He set the Sooners single-season rushing record in 2004 after totaling 1,925 yards and 15 touchdowns. He injured himself near the end of his junior year at OU, needing just 152 yards to become the career rushing leader. He did not play another game for the Sooners, entering the NFL draft that offseason.

Perhaps the addition of Adrian Peterson can provide a much-needed boost to the Seattle Seahawks’ offense. However, even then, they have a lot of ground to make up.
