Shane Gillis opened up about his awkward interaction with Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons during a Super Bowl party. While appearing on the ManningCast with Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, Gillis was asked about his first meetup with Parsons.

“He did nothing wrong. It was a completely normal reaction,” Shane Gillis said. “We were at a Super Bowl party. I’m in all Eagles gear, so I look like just a fan. Everybody else that’s there is like cool. It was at Saquon (Barkley’s) house. He was still with the Giants.

“I’m in there, I’m walking around, I’m one of the three White guys in the room, and I walk up to Micah Parsons. I was like, ‘Micah, I went to Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. I know you’re from Harrisburg.’ He was like, ‘ Who is this guy?’ Also, I’m 15 years older than him. I did leave immediately as soon as he said what’s up? I was like, it’s time for me to go.”

Shane Gillis hosted the ESPYS and filmed ‘Madden’ this year

That interaction likely happened when Gillis was still on the rise as a comedian. The last couple of years have been busy for the 37-year-old, launching his Netflix series Tires in 2024 and filming the new football movie Madden earlier this year.

Because of the work Gillis has put in, ESPN asked him to host this year’s ESPY Awards ceremony. “Shane is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host The ESPYS,” Craig Lazarus, ESPN vice president and executive producer of The ESPYS, said in June. “We are thrilled to work with him to create an entertaining show celebrating this year’s best moments in sports and are excited to see what he’ll do on stage.”

Gillis was not on the ManningCast to talk about his encounter with Parsons. Since the Monday Night Football game was the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Green Bay Packers. Gillis was on the broadcast to talk about the Eagles since he’s a big fan. He played high school football at Trinity and was recruited to play for the Army Black Knights.
