There appears to be a ton of optimism surrounding the Dallas Cowboys rookie class. One of the reasons is that they feel as if Shavon Revel Jr. could wind up being a steal in the third round. Revel is coming off an ACL tear but many viewed him as a potential first-round pick if not for the injuries.

Now in Dallas, the biggest question surrounding Revel is his recovery. On Saturday, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided the latest on the cornerback. Revel is not fully participating in rookie minicamps but is going through walkthroughs.

“Brian Schottenheimer says that #Cowboys CB Shavon Revel Jr. will be limited as he recovers from his ACL injury, but he’s ‘progressing great’ and has been able to work with the team in walkthroughs,” Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com said via X.

Revel was the No. 76 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Cornerback was an area Dallas needed to shore up this offseason and even with the injury, they feel as if Revel can be the guy. Another big-time player at the position, Trevon Diggs, is also dealing with a long-term injury.

Sometime in the summer appears to be when Revel will be fully cleared to play. For now, the update from Schottenheimer is a positive one as Revel continues on the road to recovery.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Revel

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein liked a lot of what he assessed in Revel ahead of this draft in projecting him as a first or second-round selection. He too, though, is noting how he rehabs off the injury as, besides that, he slates him as a potential starter in some team’s secondary.

“Big, long and fast are the physical descriptors that stand out for the East Carolina corner. Revel is leggy when matching press release but he’s disruptive once he gets his hands on the wideout. He plays upright in man coverage, tends to allow small pockets of separation due to his high center of gravity and still needs improvement when it comes to finding and defending the deep ball, despite his ability to stay in phase with vertical routes.

“He has ideal length and good vision from zone, and he should continue to improve in that coverage with more experience. Revel suffered a torn ACL in September, but his measurables, explosiveness and upside give him a good chance to become an early starter.”
