Skylar Thompson robbed, suffers injuries during Steelers trip to Dublin to face Vikings

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Skylar Thompson was “jumped and robbed” on Friday night in Dublin, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. He reportedly suffered minor injuries but is “ok” and with the team.
“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” a Steelers spokesperson said. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
The Steelers are in Dublin ahead of their Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Week 4’s opening matchup is the first NFL regular-season game to be played in Ireland. Additionally, it’s the second of seven international NFL games that will be played in 2025.
Thompson will not play in the game despite making the trip. Prior to the matchup, he had already been placed on the injured reserve list dealing with a previous hamstring issue.
His injury designation came on Sept. 10, so he’s eyeing a Week 6 return at the earliest. While the injuries suffered are considered minor, it’s unclear whether the incident causes a setback to his status.
Thompson is currently in his fourth season in the NFL, including his first with the Steelers. He spent his previous seasons in Miami playing for the Dolphins. During that time, he has 10 games under his belt with 721 passing yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. He has not thrown a pass for the Steelers this season.

Most of that production came while filling in for Tua Tagovailoa in Miami, who has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career. As a rookie during the 2022-23 season, Thompson saw extended playing time in four games during the regular season and even started under center during the Dolphins’ 34-31 wild card playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Thompson didn’t record any stats in 2023. However, he appeared in three games for the Dolphins last season.
He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected just a handful of picks before Mr. Irrelevant, Thompson has made the most of his NFL career given his draft status. He played his college football for Kansas State.
While Thompson recovers from his hamstring, as well as Friday’s incident, the Steelers will move forward with its Week 4 matchup in Dublin against the Vikings. Kickoff between Pittsburgh and Minnesota is set for 9:30 p.m. ET and will air live on the NFL Network.
