With the 2023 season concluded, Spire Motorsports is starting renovations on what used to be the Kyle Busch Motorsports shop. Spire will be moving in with three NASCAR Cup Series teams and possibly up to four Truck Series teams.

Spire Motorsports purchased KBM, the shop, and the manufacturing wing of the organization all in one. It is part of a huge investment into not just the Cup Series but also the Truck Series for Spire.

The team also recently purchased the charter from Live Fast Motorsports, giving them three full-time Cup teams for 2024.

Right now, renovations are underway. Spire Motorsports shared a short video showing them covering up the old KBM logos and pictures. It’s the end of an era, but the beginning of something that could be major in the sport.

Next season is going to be a big one for Spire. When they brought on Group 1001 and Gainbridge late this season as sponsors, it provided an opportunity. It appears Marco Andretti is fully involved and invested in this team. Corey LaJoie resigned to stay despite rumors that he had other offers with potentially “better” teams.

Spire Motorsports in the next couple of seasons isn’t going to be the Spire Motorsports you’re used to seeing.

Spire Motorsports flexing its muscles

In the second half of the season, as I mentioned above, Spire made huge moves. Resign LaJoie, buy a third charter, buy Kyle Busch Motorsports, sign rookies Carson Hocevar and Zane Smith (via Trackhouse) – be on the lookout.

LaJoie had his highest finish ever in the points standing. He was 25th overall this year. another top-5 at the spring Atlanta race and a top-5 at the fall Talladega race bolstered his season. He was 10th at the fall Daytona race. It was a solid season for him.

But that’s not what has me excited for Spire Motorsports next year. They could potentially have four Truck Series teams if they want to go that route. The No. 7 and No. 77 they usually run. Marco Andretti is a favorite for one of those trucks.

Then you have the KBM trucks. Busch ran one full-time truck with Chase Purdy in the No. 4. He also ran his “All-Star” truck, the No. 51, which Jack Wood also drove this season. That truck competes for the owners championship most years. Purdy teased he had signed somewhere for 2024 the other day. We’ll see if he returns or moves up to Xfinity after a solid season in 2023.

I’d love to see a driver like Rajah Caruth or Derek Kraus get a full-time chance in this equipment. There are a few others that would do well with Spire Motorsports as well.
