Steelers GM Omar Khan signs three-year contract extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have signed general manager Omar Khan to a new three-year contract extension. He will now be with the team through at least the 2028 season.
“I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said, per the team’s official website. “Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.”
“I would like to thank Art Rooney II for his support,” Omar Khan said. “I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the City of Pittsburgh and our great fans.”
Khan was hired as the team’s general manager in 2022, but is entering his 25th season with the organization. He began his career with the Steelers in 2001 as a football administration coordinator. He held that position for 10 years before being promoted to director of football administration in 2011. Kahn was then hired to be the Steelers’ vice president of football and business administration.

What’s next for Omar Khan after signing new contract with Steelers
Now that Khan has signed a new contract, the next move for the team is to get a new deal for T.J. Watt. During the offseason, Watt did not attend any team activities, including minicamp. He’s entering the final year of his four-year contract and has a cap hit of over $30 million.
Last month, Kahn signed Super Bowl champion quarterback and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. After Russell Wilson and Justin Fields left the Steelers during free agency, Khan was looking for quarterback help. Rodgers joined the Steelers after spending the last two seasons with the New York Jets.
The last time the Steelers won the Super Bowl was during the 2008 season. Their last Super Bowl appearance was during the 2010 season when they fell to Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Pittsburgh has been to the playoffs the last two seasons but hasn’t won a postseason game since 2016.
