Chris Boswell was arguably the offensive MVP for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. One game into the 2025 season and there’s no debate — Boswell IS the Steelers’ offensive MVP.

Pittsburgh is 1-0 after defeating the New York Jets, 34-32, in Sunday’s regular season opener at MetLife Stadium. There were big performances elsewhere, yes, but none bigger than Boswell, who split the uprights from 60 yards out with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Steelers the victory.

Head coach Mike Tomlin kept it short and sweet when discussing Boswell after the game. “I can’t say enough about Boz. Our kicker is a serial killer. He’s got a low pulse rate, and he’s ready to deliver.”

Boswell’s 60-yard make for the win was a career-long for him. The 11th-year veteran has been a consistent performer for the Steelers over the years, and he showed Sunday he’s at the peak of his powers coming off a Pro Bowl campaign.

Boswell, who has two years remaining on his current deal that he signed three years ago, was seeking a new contract this offseason. It never materialized but after Sunday, you have to think Boswell has a strong case to get a pay raise.

Of course, Boswell isn’t the only reason the Steelers made it out of MetLife 1-0. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making his team debut, looked like his old self. He completed 22-of-30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns — to four different receivers.

Rodgers would have been thrilled with that performance against any team. The fact that it came against the Jets, who released him earlier this offseason, makes it even more meaningful. He outdueled Justin Fields — a 2024 Steeler — and showed he still has something left in the tank.

Pittsburgh is hopeful that Sunday is just the beginning of a special season with Rodgers under center. To think, this was an offense that was held to under 20 points in each of its last five games of the 2024 season, including playoffs.

They surpassed that and then some against the Jets. Boswell and Rodgers can take a good chunk of the credit for that.
