Amid the injury to tight end Pat Freiermuth, the Pittsburgh Steelers have activated Rodney Williams from their practice squad to the active roster, per Adam Schefter.

Freiermuth suffered a hamstring injury during Pittsburgh’s loss to Houston on Sunday. Now, he’s going to miss the Steelers’ game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and could miss multiple weeks. So, the Steelers will need to rely on Williams to replace his production.

To this point in the season, Pat Freiermuth has eight receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns. His large frame has made him an excellent red zone threat for the Steelers.

Rodney Williams spent much of the 2022 season and the preseason with Pittsburgh. He was on the practice squad to open this season, though, and now he has an opportunity to prove that he deserves a long-term role within Pittsburgh’s offense. The game against Baltimore will be his first this season.

Williams played his college football at UT Martin. He went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft before signing with the Denver Broncos. Eventually, he landed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his brief NFL career, Williams has yet to make his debut in a game.

Along with this addition, the Steelers signed wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick and tight end Noah Gindorff to the team’s practice squad.

These moves are all designed to add depth to an ailing Pittsburgh Steelers offense. Many people, like Ryan Clark, are even calling for offensive coordinator Matt Canada to be fired.

“Stop bumping your head up against the Matthew Canada wall. Send him back wherever you want to send him,” Clark said. “Send him back to Pitt. Hell, I’d even take him back at LSU if he could coach defense because our offense does well. It is sickening what you saw yesterday from the Pittsburgh Steelers and I expect wholesale changes.”

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett undergoes MRI

Injuries came for the Pittsburgh Steelers during their loss to the Houston Texans. One of the scariest was when second-year starting quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a knee injury. That knee injury led to him needing to undergo an MRI.

Luckily, the MRI led to good news for the Steelers, showing that Pickett didn’t suffer any serious knee damage.

In the end, Kenny Pickett was diagnosed with a bone bruise. Head coach Mike Tomlin also noted that Pickett is practicing despite the bone bruise. All of this is likely to mean that Pickett will be healthy enough to play against the Ravens this weekend.
