Stephen Curry hamstring injury update: Shams Charania reveals possible return date for Warriors PG

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry did not play in Thursday’s 117-93 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals. Curry sat out with the hamstring injury he sustained in the Game 1 victory.
ESPN‘s Shams Charania said on Friday’s “Pat McAfee Show” that Curry will be reevaluated this coming Wednesday. Charania added his understanding is that Curry could be back for Game 6 at the earliest.
“It’s a hamstring strain. … Hamstring injuries — that’s not an injury you play with,” Charania said. “He’s really been limited to just doing treatment and he’s gonna be reevaluated on Wednesday, which means he’s definitely out for Game 3 and Game 4. So, he’s gonna miss at least three games. My understanding is this is probably not going to be at any point [a return] until Game 6 at the earliest. There’s actually a four-day gap between Game 5 and Game 6, a weird scheduling quirk.
“The NBA did not do this because Stephen Curry got hurt, the NBA had already made the schedule in alignment with the WNBA team there in the Bay. But because of that, they’re able to have that period of time. So, maybe, you get Stephen Curry back there. But this is the first strain of the hamstring that Stephen Curry has ever had in his NBA career. He’s never had this in his life, never had a hamstring injury in his life. It’s gonna be a very safe approach I think the Warriors are going to take with this.”
Warriors beaten handily in Game 2 without Stephen Curry
Curry, 37, suffered the injury in the second quarter of Game 1. He was seen grabbing at his left leg before signaling to the bench to come out of the game. Golden State held on for a 99-88 win without Curry, something they were unable to do in Game 2.

With the four-time champion off the court, the Warriors shot just 28.1% from three (9-of-32). Forward Jonathan Kuminga was the team’s leading scorer with 18 points.
As Charania mentioned, this is the first time Curry has ever dealt with a hamstring injury. Golden State will be cautious in its approach, though Curry will work hard to return at some point in the series. Curry is unsure when that will be.
“If it were my ankles or anything else, I’d be able to tell you pretty quickly,” Curry said Thursday, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “I know a set date I’ll be good. This one, I have no clue, so I’m not trying to put any expectations other than I want to feel better each day as I go. Obviously working with [Rick Celebrini, Warriors VP of player health and performance] and his expertise on doing everything that we can to get me back out there as soon as possible.
“That’s the mission. And then whenever that time comes, I should have all the answers.”
