Stewart Friesen DQ upheld after horrifying wreck, medical emergency
The National Motorsports Appeals Panel has denied Stewart Friesen‘s appeal for his disqualification from this past Friday’s TSport 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. NASCAR disqualified him after his truck did not pass post-race technical inspection for failing to meet the height requirement.
Friesen finished third before his disqualification. He was later credited with a 35th-place finish.
Friesen, 42, is currently in serious but stable condition after his violent wreck during Monday’s Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec. The accident occurred during the dirt modified feature event at Autodrome as Friesen was in a three-wide battle for position. Friesen went high up on the straightaway entering Turn 3, and his car flew off the main track surface and into the ARMCO barrier. His car burst into flames before coming back onto the racetrack, where another driver slammed into him.

Friesen, who was transported to a local hospital, suffered a broken pelvis and a fractured right leg. The Truck Series veteran is returning stateside to undergo multiple surgeries. Jessica Friesen, Stewart’s wife, posted a health update Tuesday, making fans aware of the plans going forward. He will be headed to New York for surgery.

“Stewart continues to be in serious but stable condition here at a hospital in Quebec,” Jessica wrote. “He will be transferred to a hospital in New York tomorrow, where multiple surgeries will take place in the coming days.”
Friesen has raced full-time in the Truck Series since 2017, piloting the No. 52 Toyota for his team Halmar Friesen Racing. Friesen, a four-time winner, currently sits 13th in the points standings, with one win, six top 10s and three top 5s in 16 starts.
He secured a playoff spot with his June 7 victory at Michigan International Speedway. There are two races remaining in the regular season before the playoffs begin Aug. 30 at Darlington Speedway.
