Taylor Swift reveals Andy Reid vouched for Travis Kelce after Chiefs star chose to 'shoot his shot'

After Travis Kelce shot his shot with Taylor Swift on his New Heights podcast in 2023, the pop star started to hear about him. Andy Reid was one of those people who reached out.

Reid is a friend of Swift’s father, Scott, and he infamously said he helped set her up with Kelce in the early stages of their relationship. The four-time Album of the Year winner is from Pennsylvania and became well-known as a Philadelphia Eagles fan, where Reid previously coached.

But when Kelce went on his show and said he had a friendship bracelet for Swift, hoping to give her his phone number, the reaction poured in from her friends and family. As she recounted it all, she made sure to thank Reid for being one of those who vouched for Kelce.

“When you guys did the full-send on the podcast and he was like, ‘Do you want to date me?’ And everybody heard it. It was the shooting-your-shot-heard ’round the world,” Swift said. “Basically, everyone who likes you – which is a lot of people – started reaching out to everyone who knows me. I think it was like, Andy was vouching for you. I think it was my relatives, my cousins were like, ‘Please, please, please. He’s amazing.’ There were friends that were like, ‘He’s actually an amazing guy. Like, he’s so great.’

“There was a lot of kind of people whispering in my ear about you and actually, that’s not normal. It’s not normal. There are people just willing to go to bat for you and be like, ‘You don’t understand, this guy’s incredible.’ … Thank you, Andy, for everything.”

Since she started dating Kelce, Swift has maintained a constant presence at Chiefs games. She watches games from a suite at Arrowhead Stadium – the site of the concert Kelce attended – and Patrick Mahomes has said she’s welcome around the team anytime.

Of course, Wednesday night also marked Taylor Swift’s podcast debut as she made her appearance on New Heights to unveil her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. She also released the track list. Reid heard about the appearance, especially from his own family, and said he’s happy for both Swift and Kelce.

“Listen, I’m like really old. My grandkids will be all over it,” Reid said Wednesday. “But I’m happy for them. Both of them like each other, and what a plus that is. They care about each other, and I think that’s the most important thing. The older you get, you want these guys to have somebody they can settle down with, that whole deal. I think it’s a neat deal for them — both of them.”
