The rivalry game between the Volunteers and Wildcats has been historically one-sided. Tennessee leads the all-time series 85-26-9 and has won the last four matchups.
Notably, Tennessee won 26 straight games against Kentucky between 1985 and 2010. The Wildcats snapped that streak in 2011 behind wide receiver-turned-quarterback Matt Roark’s guidance. He helped UK to a 10-7 win that afternoon.
Last season’s matchup went the way of the Volunteers, 28-18. Tennessee outscored Kentucky 21-8 in the second half after trailing at halftime.
The Wildcats went on to finish with a 4-8 record. They missed a bowl game for the first time in eight seasons under head coach Mark Stoops — snapping a program record.

Meanwhile, the Volunteers were a part of the first ever 12-team College Football Playoff. Tennessee the eventual national champions, Ohio State in the first round. Despite the early exit, it set the standard for expectations for head coach Josh Heupel in Knoxville.
In all, the Wildcats have beaten the Volunteers just four times in the last four decades. The last time Kentucky beat a Vols team that finished with a winning record was 1984.
