Terry McLaurin still remains unsigned in the nation’s capital with just over two weeks until the season starts for the Commanders. With that, Tom Pelissero at the NFL Network is keeping an eye on the next week or so to see if something comes in Washington.

On ‘Good Morning Football’ on Thursday, Pelissero shared some of the latest intel from around the NFL, including that involving McLaurin’s contract. He noted that nothing has come yet on either side, but that the Commanders could try once more in the next few days to get a deal done with him.

“In Washington, Terry McLaurin also embroiled in his own contract talks,” Pelissero said. “There have been negotiations between McLaurin’s agent, Buddy Baker, and the team, but the sides have not been close to this point on a deal.

“The coming days are going to be telling. Does Washington make one more offer to try to get something done with McLaurin?”

As part of this dispute, McLaurin, who has been frustrated by this and didn’t report to camp for a week, also requested a trade three weeks ago on July 31st. However, that has yet to go anywhere either, with Washington expecting to have him on the team for this season.

“Like Micah Parsons, McLaurin has requested a trade, but it doesn’t sound like Washington has really seriously explored that option,” added Pelissero. “They still anticipate having McLaurin on the roster in 2025.”

Beyond the off-field updates, Pelissero then added an on-field one for McLaurin, who Washington activated off the PUP list earlier this week after he’d been dealing with an ankle issue. It has been noted that his activation was not related to his contract, but it does make way for a possible return to practice towards the end of training camp for the Commanders.

“Several days ago, McLaurin did return from the physically unable to perform list. His ankle is healthy, but there’s a conditioning piece there as well,” Pelissero said. “He’s doing his ramp-up behind the scenes, according to Dan Quinn. Still remains to be seen exactly when McLaurin is actually going to get back onto the practice field.”

McLaurin has led Washington in receiving in every season of his pro career since arriving in 2019, posting 460 receptions for 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns. That includes some career-best numbers coming off last season with 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 TDs, now as the top target for Jayden Daniels.

After that last season, McLaurin is still negotiating for more annual value as one of the best receivers in the National Football League. Whether he gets that before this year, though, could come down to the next few days, per Pelissero.
