Terry McLaurin has reported to Washington Commanders training camp. That means the holdout is over, and the hold-in begins as he’s arrived without a new contract as well as an apparent new injury.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McLaurin is dealing with “some sort of ankle injury.” He will be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to begin camp.

His arrival to the Commanders facility in Ashburn, VA comes as he was racking up $50,000 fines per day for being away from the team. Now that he’s at training camp, the fines stop as contract negotiations resume.

McLaurin is entering the final year of a three-year, $68.4 million contract. Naturally, the former Ohio State wideout feels that he is due for a major raise. After all, his $15.5 million base salary for the 2025 season is about half of what the top WRs in the market are worth.

His now ended holdout comes after he put up career-high touchdown numbers in Washington in 2024. He scored 13 touchdowns — six more than any other season in his career — by hauling in 82 receptions for 1,096 yards. 2024 was his fifth straight 1,000-yard season with the Commanders, and his sixth overall in the league.

McLaurin is among the most consistent players in the league, as well as productive. It’s clear he wants to be paid as such.

His jump in scoring production in 2024 was timed with the arrival of star quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels helped lead the team to a conference championship game in his rookie season.

His presence is expected to keep Washington in contention within the NFC for years to come. However, with just over a month to go before the 2025 NFL season, time is ticking for Washington to extend him before the start of the regular season.

Prior reports state that the Commanders want McLaurin to be with the team for the rest of his career and that they wouldn’t trade him amid the previous holdout. The only options from there would be for them to extend him, let him play out his contract and let him test free agency, or release. The latter two don’t seem very likely.

For now, it remains to be seen if Washington and McLaurin can come to an agreement by that time. At least now, the two sides can negotiate in person before the start of the regular season. Washington kicks the 2025 NFL season off during Week 1 against the New York Giants on Sept. 7.
