Texans-Bears Hall of Fame game suspended due to severe weather

NFL fans got to whet their appetite for live football on Thursday night, as the Bears and Texans put on a show for fans. But unfortunately, bad weather rolled into the Canton, Ohio area and there are currently thunderstorms and lightning in the area. Play was officially suspended in the third quarter, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame issued an official tweet once the game was stopped with 3:31 remaining in the third quarter.
The game was eventually cancelled on Thursday night due to bad weather. The Bears won the game 21-17. It’s not surprising they decided to call it, especially since it was preseason. There were plenty of storms in the area and the NFL didn’t want to risk anything. It’s a wise move for everyone involved.
The Bears got great performances from quarterback Brett Rypien and receiver Collin Johnson. Rypien completed 11 of his 15 passes for 166 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns. Johnson made some spectacular grabs, hauling in three catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns.
“The NFL made the right move with lightning in the area,” Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said of the decision to end the game in an article written by Grant Gordon of NFL.com. “That was good to see.”

“They knew the weather was coming in and told us before the game,” Eberflus said. “They had a plan in place to watch it because you never know how bad it’s going to be in terms of the lightning and the severity of it. It was severe enough that they called it. They made a good call.”
Bears tight end Tommy Sweeney had a great game, hauling in three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. He’s bounced around the league on a number of teams (Buffalo Bills and New York Giants) but was a first-team All-ACC performer coming out of Boston College in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his final season with the Eagles, he tallied 32 catches for 348 yards and three touchdowns.
The Houston Texans got a pretty solid performance out of quarterback Davis Mills. He completed 10 of 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. John Metchie III had a catch for the Texans. Xavier Hutchinson led Houston in receiving (five catches for 56 yards). Ben Skowronek had a pretty solid game, reeling in some highlight reel grabs. He finished with three catches for 28 yards. Texans running back Cam Akers showed some juice on Thursday night, finishing with over 30 all-purpose yards and a touchdown on seven touches. The franchise just signed him on July 21st.
