WATCH: Scottie Scheffler wins the 2022 Masters

Scottie Scheffler stepped on the first tee box Sunday afternoon with a three-shot lead over Cam Smith. He left the 18th green as a champion, winning the 2022 Masters by three strokes at 10 under. Making it his fourth win of the year, Scheffler will forever cherish this one the most, earning his first green jacket.

Things started out rough on the first few holes, only having one birdie on the first six holes. However, his one birdie was a special one, holing out on No. 3 after a poor tee shot and coming up short on his second. From there, it was a major momentum swing between Scheffler and Smith.

While it was not the lowest scoring round Scheffler has played, it was more than enough to get him the win. Scheffler shot a final round 71, while his playing partner fell down the leaderboard. It was a tournament-changing 12th hole where everything was decided — Smith having a triple bogey and Scheffler securing a par.

Scheffler has played well in every other major, finishing inside the top 10 in the PGA Championship, The Open, and US Open. It’s always been Augusta where Scheffler was not able to figure it out, with his previous best finish being tied for 18th. He was able to put it all together this year, dominating from the second round on.

Friday was a dominant day for Scheffler, posting a 67 and giving himself a sizable lead going into the weekend. After bogeying two of the first three holes, it was nothing but birdies and pars from that point on. Scheffler made six birdies in the second round while the rest of the field was struggling.

Scheffler entered the year without a win to his name. He’s been on an absolute tear since then, winning the WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the WGC-Dell Technology Match Play — all within five weeks of each other and becoming the world’s No. 1 golfer. Not to mention playing a critical role in the United States winning the Ryder Cup.

Now, he can add The Masters to his resume, where he will forever be engraved in golf history. Only thing left to do is Hideki Matsuyama put the green jacket on Scheffler in Butler Cabin.
