Tiger Woods announces completion of surprise surgery amid recovery from torn Achilles

Tiger Woods revealed Saturday that he has undergone another surgery, this time to replace a lumbar disc in his back. The legendary golfer posted the news on Twitter.
Woods has had a number of health issues in recent years, including a ruptured Achilles tendon. Woods suffered that injury in the spring and underwent a procedure to repair it.
His latest back issue is yet another setback for the man who was formerly the best golfer in the world. Woods explained what happened.
“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken,” a statement from Tiger Woods released via Twitter read. “The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in my L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal. I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”
The surgery was deemed successful, per the statement. It was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Tiger Woods suffered ruptured Achilles
Tiger Woods announced he ruptured his Achilles during his ramp up in training this spring. The 15-time major champion was gearing up for, likely, a limited 2025 schedule that would have included major tournaments.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods said in a statement. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.”
Woods’ doctor also released a statement. The golfing legend is expected to make a full recovery.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Stucken said.
Woods, 49, has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career but has been able to recover and return to form, usually. But since 2021, when Woods was hospitalized after a single car collision where he suffered compound fractures in each leg, age and injuries have seriously caught up.
His latest injury will undoubtedly force him to go through even more rehab and training before making a potential return to the course. But if anyone can pull it off it’s Tiger Woods.
