There is nothing that the ageless Tony Stewart can’t drive! If it has four tires and a steering wheel, Smoke is going to find the speed. Today at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, Stewart claimed the NHRA regular-season championship for Top Fuel.

When Tony Stewart took over his wife Leah Pruett’s Top Fuel ride in 2024, it was an experiment. No one knew how quickly he could adapt from Top Alcohol Dragsters to Top Fuel. Well, it didn’t take long, did it?

Last season, Stewart was the Rookie of the Year. This year, he claims the regular season championship and is hoping to add more trophies to his collection in the coming weeks.

USAC Triple Crown, IndyCar champ, three-time NASCAR champ, SRX champ – and now, NHRA Top Fuel champion. He still has work to do to claim the overall championship, but the regular season is just as sweet.

There are six events left after U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. That will determine the season champion. For now, Tony Stewart is feeling good and has to like his chances of becoming Top Fuel Champion in Pomona, California, in November.

For Smoke to go into Top Fuel and compete with Doug Kalitta, Shawn Langdon, Justin Ashley, Brittany Force, Antron Brown, and the many great drag racers in the series and win this regular season is impressive. Make no mistake about it.

To be performing at an elite level in any form of motorsports at 54 years old is impressive. No matter how you describe it, Stewart is an all-time great talent. He is perhaps the most versatile wheelman to ever live.

Tony Stewart can do it all and is doing it well

While Tony Stewart got to do a seat swap at Watkins Glen in Lewis Hamilton’s F1 car years ago, it’s a shame he never got to compete in the series. Of course, when would he have had time to do it? Between all he has done in racing, you have to like his chances of being competitive.

The NHRA journey for Stewart has been interesting and fun to watch. It is a series that often gets overlooked. But there is serious talent in those dragsters, and it takes a different kind of skill to be great at it.

Tony Stewart continues to be great in all he does behind the wheel. One of the all-time greats. It is amazing that with all he has done in his career, you can still sit there and come up with a few “What ifs?” for Smoke.
