On Sunday, Tony Stewart was involved in a violent wreck during Round 2 of NHRA Top Fuel at Reading Nationals. Doug Kalitta beat Stewart on their run, but as the two pulled their chutes and slowed down, Kalitta’s front left wheel failed.

The two Top Fuel cars slammed into each other. Tony Stewart was put into the wall and almost flipped over during the wreck. It was an intense moment that left both drivers a little worse for wear.

Today, Smoke has sent a message to his fans. It was a huge wreck, and Stewart expressed confusion afterward. So, this update is a welcome one from his supporters and fans.

“I just wanted to thank all of our fans, teammates, and most of all our racing family for checking on us yesterday,” Stewart wrote on social media. “Wasn’t the day we had planned, but thankful to the [NHRA] Safety Safari and Dr. Surface for making sure we did all the right things in that situation.

“It definitely could have been way worse. Everyone that climbs into a racecar knows it can happen at any moment, but it’s a great example of how we’re all human and how the entire racing community cares for each other.

“I’m sore today, but that’s to be expected. Can’t wait to get back to the track Friday and continue this amazing battle for a World Championship.”

Tony Stewart still fighting for Top Fuel title

Tony Stewart won the regular season championship for Top Fuel. Now, he’s ready to race for the big championship between now and November. Reading Nationals didn’t go according to plan, but the next NHRA events are what will really determine if Smoke is still in contention for this title.

Following Sunday’s action at Reading Nationals, Doug Kalitta leads Tony Stewart by 18 points. The top four drivers are separated by only 50 points. This could be a very interesting battle for the championship.

It has been astounding to watch Tony Stewart go to another discipline of racing and win so soon. He has been fantastic at everything he has ever done, and drag racing is no different. What he has been able to do in such a short time, at his age, is nothing short of impressive.

This championship race is far from over. Smoke is going to recover and get back behind the wheel. Just like he has for his entire life.
