Travis Hunter injury update: Adam Schefter reveals latest on IR move, hurt knee

Travis Hunter suffered a non-contact knee injury on Thursday at a Jacksonville Jaguars practice. On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided an update on the rookie standout’s condition.
“Initial testing revealed that Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter’s ACL is intact, per source,” Schefter wrote on X. “Hunter is going through additional testing to determine the extent of the injury and how long he’ll be sidelined, and no answers are expected before next week. Hunter injured his knee during practice Thursday and was placed on IR today.”
As a result of being placed on IR, Hunter will miss at least the Jaguars’ next four games. Hunter was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft this spring and has played both wide receiver and defensive back for Jacksonville.
In the Jaguars’ 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 19—Jacksonville’s last outing—Hunter recorded a career-high eight catches for 101 yards, while scoring his first NFL touchdown.
“We’re currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team,” Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said earlier Friday, per ESPN. “Feel bad for the guy, for the kid, for our team, for everything, but he’s in good spirits right now. Minor setback for a major comeback. That’s just the way it’s got to be.

“It is definitely not ideal timing… Not that any injuries are ever ideal timing, but got to believe the makeup, his general attitude towards life and how he handles dealing with specific situations — I have a lot of belief in Travis as a person, as a competitor, to come back better than ever.”
Hunter’s injury reportedly occurred while he was on defense at practice. Hunter boasts 28 catches for 298 yards this season. He was becoming the Jaguars’ No. 1 receiver this season, but will now face a setback.
After beginning the season with an impressive 4-1 record, the Jaguars have lost their last two games. Liam Coen is in his debut campaign at the helm of the organization. Without one of his star players on the field, he’ll have to find a way to guide the Jaguars to victory this weekend.
On Sunday, the Jaguars will play their first game of the season without Travis Hunter. Jacksonville will square off against the Las Vegas Raiders at 4:05 p.m. ET. The game will air live on FOX.
