The Dallas Cowboys are down two of their best defenders due to injury in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Both defensive tackle Kenny Clark and cornerback Trevon Diggs left the contest late in the third quarter.

Diggs’ injury occurred when he made a tackle on Bears receiver DJ Moore. It is an apparent shoulder injury and he was taken to the medical tent to be evaluated.

Clark’s injury happened only a few plays later as he was helped off the field and also taken to the injury tent. He was later able to return to the game in the fourth quarter.

The injuries came at a critical time, as just a few plays later the Bears went on to score a touchdown and increase their lead to 31-14. That is were the score remains at the time of this writing with 8:58 to go in the fourth quarter.

The team will be hopeful that Trevon Diggs can rejoin Kenny Clark in returning to the field. He is considered one of their best players in the secondary with 20 interceptions across his career. However, he had only five tackles through the first two games of this season.

Clark is in his first season with Dallas after being included in the Micah Parsons trade ahead of this season. He has nine tackles and a sack on the year so far.

CeeDee Lamb also leaves game with injury for Cowboys

Clark and Diggs weren’t the only players to leave with injury for Dallas. Receiver CeeDee Lamb also suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter that sidelined him for the remainder of the game.

The injury occurred in the first quarter after Lamb rolled his ankle while being tackled by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell. Lamb later returned to the game for one play but came off the field limping after running a route.

FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews later revealed that Lamb was out for the rest of the game. David J. Chao, a former team doctor with the Chargers, broke down the type of injury Lamb suffered. He added that he considers it a “milder” ankle sprain and doesn’t anticipate the receiver being kept out long.

“It was an eversion type where the ankle’s turned out,” Chao said. “It’s a milder form of a high ankle sprain. We thought he would try and get taped and return. He did get taped and return, but his return was very, very short-lived and he is done for the day. The only good news out of this is this is not a long-term injury. Next week isn’t guaranteed, but not anticipating injured reserve for CeeDee Lamb.”
