Trevon Diggs reveals he did not start vs. Packers due to off-the-field issue

Former First Team All-Pro defensive back Trevon Diggs revealed on Wednesday that he did not start in Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers due to an off-the-the-field issue. Off the bench, Diggs recorded four tackles in the 40-40 tie.
Per Diggs, he expects to start on Sunday against the New York Jets and respected head coach Brian Schottenheimer‘s decision to leave him out of the starting lineup.
“He’s been banged up a little bit,” Schottenheimer said postgame about Diggs. “I’ve been a little tough on Trevon, just in terms of the consistency and things like that. But man, I thought he played really well tonight. I’m proud of him.”
Diggs has played in all four of Dallas’ games this season. He’s recorded 11 tackles. He however has not yet recorded an interception. The former Alabama product led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021, the season where he was named First Team All-Pro. He’s recorded just six interceptions in the four seasons following that monstrous campaign.
In 2023, Diggs played in just 11 of the Cowboys’ 17 regular season games because he dealt with multiple injuries, including an injured left knee, which he had surgery on during the offseason. He appears however to be healthy this season and is a key member of a struggling Dallas defense under first year defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

Dallas’ defense ranks last in the NFL
Through four games this season, the Micah Parsons-less Cowboy defense is giving up 420.5 yards per game (most in NFL) and 33.0 points per game (second most in NFL). The three-time All Pro was traded just before the season to the Green Bay Packers for DT Kenny Clark. This move left a major hole in the Cowboys defense which is getting absolutely shredded by opposing offenses so far this season.
After allowing just 24 points to the Philadelphia Eagles in their season opener, they’ve allowed 40, 31 and 40 points in their last three games. Over this span, the team is 1-1-1 due to the fact they have (statistically) the best offense in the National Football League.
Diggs and the Cowboy defense will look to improve this weekend in their Week 5 game against the New York Jets. Sunday’s kick-off time is set for 1:00 PM. The game can be seen on FOX.
