For the first time since 2023, Trevor Bayne is going racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He’s set for Las Vegas in a few weeks. Bayne is hopping behind the wheel of the Sam Hunt Racing No. 24 Toyota Supra.

In 2022 and 2023, Trevor Bayne made starts with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series. He was in contention for a few of those races and showed that he is still a serviceable driver. A few weeks ago at Darlington, Bayne finished P5 in the Truck Series with Tricon Garage.

While Bayne is mostly a simulator and driver coach, he’s still ready to race a few times a year. I think that he is going to do well at Las Vegas, and it should be a big boost for SHR as they continue to build their organization.

Sam Hunt Racing is a small team. Getting a veteran like Trevor Bayne behind the wheel of one of their cars is a big deal. The two can both benefit from the Las Vegas weekend. The stakes will be high for the playoff drivers in the field. Bayne will also have to keep that in mind as he races alongside these other drivers.

It’s easy to forget how young Bayne still is. He’s only 34, and while he isn’t racing full-time anymore, he has found multiple ways to be involved in the sport. He is a driver coach at Legacy Motor Club. He’s helped develop a few Toyota drivers in recent years. The Daytona 500 winner has a lot of wisdom to share with those coming up through the ranks.

Trevor Bayne could mix up Xfinity race at Las Vegas

You have to like Trevor Bayne’s chances of at least being competitive at Las Vegas. When he has raced in the Xfinity Series, he has found success. That goes back to his full-time seasons over a decade ago and for his part-time starts more recently.

NASCAR fans love Bayne. He’s one of those drivers that you can’t root against. He achieved the pinnacle of the sport at such a young age. While he never developed into a Cup Series champion, he has shown that he is an excellent stock car driver in his own right.

Sam Hunt Racing has had good performances in the recent past. They have Dean Thompson full-time in he 26 car this season. I would argue that he has overachieved at times, and the organization has benefited from having a full-time driver.

Trevor Bayne in Las Vegas. What expectations should be put on him and this Sam Hunt team?
