Trevor Lawrence plans to work closely with Travis Hunter this offseason, and will soon “really dial in on the details,” on the field. The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback spoke highly of the team’s first-round draft pick during Monday’s press conference following the first day of Jaguars OTA’s.

Since Hunter arrived in Jacksonville last month, Lawrence has been able to see first-hand what Hunter is capable. It’s expected of them to quickly gain chemistry on and off the field, and he offered his first impressions of the two-way star as offseason practices gets underway.

“Got a lot of juice, like he can run all day,” Lawrence told reporters. “A lot of energy. I love it. Good energy. Always dapping guys up, just bringing juice every day. Like I said, high motor. Can just go. It’s like a kid just runs around all day. He doesn’t get tired, it seems like. So you can’t have enough of that. And then, as far as just talent, I mean, kind of speaks for itself. Ball skills, run after the catch, he’s very explosive. Just didn’t realize how explosive he was in and out of cuts. He’s impressive to watch.”

The two connected on more than a few throws during Monday’s practice. One out route by Hunter from Lawrence was shared to social media, and their timing is already looking on-point.

Of course, it’s easy to over-analyze plays against air during summer camp, but is an exciting prospect for the Jaguars. Hunter is expected to play a massive role in the team’s offensive and defensive efforts for at least the next four seasons.

Hunter joins Brian Thomas Jr., who is coming off a near 1,300-yard receiving season as a rookie, in the receivers room in Jacksonville. Thomas caught 10 touchdown passes and played in all 17 games for the Jaguars. The next closest receiver on last year’s roster was tight end Brenton Strange with 411 yards.

With Jacksonville’s lack of depth at the position, Hunter is expected to play early and often out wide for the Jaguars offense. His status as a two-way player as a cornerback on the defensive side of the ball will also call into question about how often he can be on the field offensively.

Whether this limits his touches as a wide receiver remains to be seen, but Hunter balanced his responsibilities on both sides of the football masterfully, which is supported by his status as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

OTAs for Jacksonville will continue on May 21-22, then May 27, May 29-30 and then concludes on June 2-5. After that, mandatory minicamp begins on June 10.
